Urgent care marketing in AI search is the work of making sure that when someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Mode where to get seen tonight, the answer names your centers with the right hours, services and insurance. Curve Compliance helps urgent care groups see those answers and improve them. AI Visibility is a feature in Curve Compliance, and Curve also offers it as a managed service. Curve AEO is the managed service: Curve's team handles your AEO strategy, content creation and optimization, with a dashboard that shows how your brand appears in AI answers.

How people look for urgent care in AI assistants
Urgent care is a large, local and fast category. The Urgent Care Association counts 15,101 urgent care centers in the U.S. and more than 185 million patients cared for in an urgent care setting each year, and says, citing its member survey, 89.4% of the U.S. population lives within a 20-minute drive of one (Urgent Care Association). With that many options close by, the first answer matters.
Three patterns in the research matter for urgent care marketers:
- People ask AI whether they need care at all. In KFF's 2026 poll, 16% of adults used AI in the past year to help decide whether to see a doctor or seek medical care (KFF), and Pew found 25% of adults use chatbots to figure out what is causing symptoms (Pew).
- They ask after hours. In more than 500,000 Copilot health conversations, Microsoft found personal symptom queries "increase markedly in the evening and nighttime hours, when traditional healthcare is most limited" (Microsoft AI).
- They ask for someone else. One in seven of those queries concern someone else, such as a child, a parent or a partner (Microsoft AI).
Then they ask where to go. In Microsoft's data, finding nearby providers, clinics or specialists made up 43.1% of healthcare navigation conversations (Microsoft AI). In rater8's 2026 survey, 55% of patients searching for a new doctor start with some version of "specialty near me" (rater8). And OpenAI says its GPT-5.5 Instant model "has made meaningful gains in recognizing when urgent care may be needed" (OpenAI). When an assistant tells someone to get seen today, the next question is where.
AI answers push in both directions. In Wolters Kluwer's 2026 survey, 26% of patients said they sought medical care sooner after using AI to research a potential symptom or condition (Wolters Kluwer), while 14% of recent AI health users in Gallup's data said AI advice led them to skip a provider visit in the past 30 days (Gallup). More data: patients using AI to research providers.
What people ask AI about urgent care, and what the answer needs
Most urgent care questions are about your centers, not medicine. Here is what people ask, and what an assistant needs to find on your site:
| What people ask | What the answer needs from your site |
|---|---|
| urgent care open now near me | Current hours for each center, including weekends and holidays, written as text on that center's page |
| should I go to urgent care or the ER for [symptom] | A plain "urgent care or emergency room" page your medical director has written or approved |
| urgent care with X-ray in [neighborhood] | The services each center offers, such as X-rays or lab tests, listed on the center page |
| urgent care that takes [insurance plan] | The plans each center accepts, kept current |
| walk-in clinic that sees kids | The ages each center sees, stated plainly |
| urgent care with online check-in | How to check in or save a spot, and what to bring |
| urgent care for a work injury near me | Occupational medicine and physicals pages, if you offer them |
The medical part, such as when a symptom belongs in the emergency room, is where your clinicians write or approve every word. The rest is facts about your centers.
Where AI answers for urgent care come from
Google treats the two halves of an urgent care search differently. BrightEdge's December 2025 snapshot of its healthcare keyword set found AI Overviews on 98% of pain-related queries and 93% of symptom queries (BrightEdge). For "near me" and provider-finding queries, the same study reports 0% in 2025, down from 100% coverage two years earlier (BrightEdge). A second BrightEdge page, which tracks 2,760 healthcare keywords, puts searches like "doctor near me" and "urgent care near me" at 11% in December 2025 (BrightEdge). The figures come from two BrightEdge studies from different dates, but both point the same way: Google mostly answers "where" with maps and local results, and "do I need care" with an AI Overview.
WebFX found the same split in its study of 130,070 health searches: queries with a location, like "dermatologist chattanooga", triggered an AI Overview 35.8% of the time, against 54.2% for queries with no brand or location (WebFX).
That does not take urgent care out of AI search. Chat assistants answer "where should I go" in full sentences, and SOCi found AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity "dramatically more selective than traditional search". Across more than 350,000 locations of 2,751 multi-location brands in all industries, SOCi found ChatGPT recommends just 1.2% of brand locations, compared with an average 35.9% appearance rate in Google's local 3-Pack (SOCi). For local healthcare questions, Yext found 52.61% of AI citations pointed to listings, which it ties to medical directories, licensing databases and insurance platforms (Yext).
Google says Business Profiles can "help your products and services to be visible in both AI responses and other Google Search results" (Google). For an urgent care group, that makes listings and center pages one job, not two. See where AI gets healthcare answers and Google AI Mode for healthcare marketers.
Why wrong hours hurt more in urgent care
In rater8's 2026 survey, 66% of patients who used AI to research providers said they had encountered incorrect provider information from an AI tool, such as wrong addresses, phone numbers, insurance details or office hours, and 60% said they trusted the summary they received without verifying it (rater8).
For most specialties, a wrong phone number is an annoyance. For urgent care, wrong hours send a parent and a sick child to a locked door at 8:45 p.m., and on to whichever center the next answer names. Holiday hours and centers that have moved are easy to miss. See when AI gets your practice wrong.
The urgent care or ER question is also a wait question. If your pages explain how online check-in works and what to expect on arrival, an assistant has something concrete to repeat.
AI answers also move from day to day. Ahrefs tracked about 37,500 citations for 20 days and found 50% to 83% were gone the next day, though about 75% of those came back within 20 days (Ahrefs). Judge your answers over several days, not from one check.
An urgent care AEO checklist
- Give every center its own page. Address, phone, hours with holiday hours, services, ages seen, plans accepted and how to check in, as text, not only inside an image or widget.
- Publish one clear "urgent care or ER" page. Your medical director writes or approves it; link it from every center page.
- Name services the way people ask for them. X-rays, lab tests, physicals, occupational medicine: a short page for each, listing the centers that offer it.
- Keep listings in step with your site. Your Google Business Profile, directories and insurer listings should match your center pages.
- Let AI search read your site. Allow search crawlers such as Googlebot and OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt and at your CDN.
- Earn real reviews, and reply without patient details. In rater8's 2026 survey, 75% of patients said the lowest star rating they would accept before booking is 4.0 or higher, and 55% have canceled or avoided booking with a provider because of negative online reviews (rater8).
- Track the answers by market and by question type. Ask the "where" questions in each market, the "do I need care" questions once, and watch both over time.
- Keep patient data out of your tracking. Symptom pages and check-in flows are sensitive. See HIPAA-compliant tracking for urgent care centers.
Google's AI features guide lists "Making sure that important content is available in textual form" and "Checking that your Merchant Center and Business Profile information is up-to-date" among the basics (Google), and its AI optimization guide says "there's no special schema.org markup you need to add" (Google). OpenAI says sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot "will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though can still appear as navigational links" (OpenAI). Measuring what AI search sends your centers
AI referrals are still a small slice of healthcare traffic: 0.64% of all website traffic in Conductor's healthcare benchmarks, with ChatGPT driving 83.8% of it (Conductor). The bigger effect is on Google itself. In Pew's browsing data on Google searches across all topics, users who saw an AI summary clicked a traditional result on 8% of visits, against 15% when no summary appeared (Pew Research Center).
So watch more than AI clicks: whether answers name your centers, get your facts right, and send people who check in. See AI search traffic to bookings and tracking AI answers market by market.

AI Visibility ties AI answers to the visits and bookings they bring you. AI Visibility catches what AI gets wrong about your practice, so you can correct it on the pages AI reads. AI Visibility is built for healthcare: only the marketing question you track is sent to AI assistants, screened for PHI first, and never anything about a patient. Curve is SOC 2 Type II and signs a BAA on every plan.
In one AI Visibility program we've run, for a HIPAA-focused healthcare software brand, AI assistants named or cited the brand in more than half of their answers to its 40 core buyer questions about five weeks in. Across 184 buyer questions, its site was cited in more AI answers than any competitor's, more than 2.5 times as many as the nearest one.
Built for healthcare marketers, Curve connects the entire patient funnel in one platform: paid ads, web analytics, and now AI search. AI Visibility is available on request: book a call to get started. See AI Visibility and Curve for urgent care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is urgent care marketing in AI search?
It is the work of getting your urgent care centers named, with the right hours, services and insurance, when people ask AI assistants where to go for care. It covers clear center pages, clinician-approved guidance on when to seek care, accurate listings, and tracking what the answers say.
Do AI Overviews show up for "urgent care near me" searches?
Rarely. BrightEdge reports 0% of "near me" healthcare queries with an AI Overview in 2025 in one study (BrightEdge) and 11% for searches like "urgent care near me" in December 2025 in another, which used a different keyword set and was published on a different date (BrightEdge). Chat assistants and AI Mode still answer those questions, so they are worth tracking.
What should an urgent care center page include for AI search?
Address, phone, hours with holiday hours, services, ages seen, plans accepted and how to check in, as text on the page, matching your Google Business Profile.
Should our site explain when to go to urgent care or the ER?
Yes, in a plain page your medical director writes or approves. People ask AI this question before they choose a center, and the medical wording should always come from your clinicians.
Why does ChatGPT name another urgent care instead of ours?
The research points to listings and reviews: across multi-location brands in all industries, SOCi found the locations ChatGPT recommends average 4.3-star ratings (SOCi), and for local healthcare questions Yext found 52.61% of AI citations pointed to listings (Yext). Clear, consistent center facts on your site and listings give an assistant more to work with. See why AI recommends your competitor.
Does tracking AI answers involve patient data?
No patient data is needed. AI Visibility is built for healthcare: only the marketing question you track is sent to AI assistants, screened for PHI first, and never anything about a patient. Curve is SOC 2 Type II and signs a BAA on every plan.
Can Curve run AEO for our urgent care group?
Yes. Curve AEO is the managed service: Curve's team builds your strategy, creates and optimizes content, and tracks progress, and your clinicians approve anything medical. AI Visibility is available on request: book a call to get started.
