To tie AI search traffic to bookings, count the visits that arrive from a link in an AI answer, credit the appointments those visits lead to, and estimate the extra branded searches and direct visits that rise along with them, often called the halo. Curve Compliance's AI Visibility ties AI answers to the visits and bookings they bring you. AI Visibility is a feature in Curve Compliance, and Curve also offers it as a managed service.

Why AI clicks undercount AI influence
An AI answer can send a patient to you in two ways. Some click a cited link straight away. Others read the answer, then search for the practice by name or type its address a day later. The first path shows up as an AI referral. The second shows up as a branded search or a direct visit, and nothing in that visit points back to the assistant.
Google's own observation suggests the clicks are worth having. It says that “when people click from search results pages with AI Overviews, these clicks are higher quality (meaning, users are more likely to spend more time on the site)” (Google). Time on site is not a booking, though, so the measurement has to run all the way to the appointment.
Where AI traffic shows up
Each AI source reports in a different place. Here is where to look for each one:
| AI source | Where its traffic or citations show up | Source |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini | Referral visits from links in their answers, in your analytics or tracking tool. | Referral tracking guide |
| Microsoft Copilot and Bing | Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report shows how often your content is cited in Copilot and in Bing's AI-generated summaries, and which pages are cited. | Bing Webmaster Blog |
| Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Inside your overall search traffic in Search Console, in the Performance report under the Web search type. Google also points to its Generative AI performance report. | Google; Google |
Google says that “sites appearing in AI features (such as AI Overviews and AI Mode) are included in the overall search traffic in Search Console” (Google), and that to measure performance in its generative AI features you should “use the Generative AI performance report in Search Console” (Google). Bing describes its AI Performance report as “a new set of insights that shows how publisher content appears across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing, and select partner integrations” (Bing). For setup in analytics tools, see measuring AI search traffic in GA4 and tracking ChatGPT and Perplexity referrals without GA4.
Bing's report also lists grounding queries, which it describes as “the key phrases the AI used when retrieving content that was referenced in AI-generated answers” (Bing). Those phrases show which questions your pages answer for Copilot and Bing's AI summaries, which is a useful check on whether AI reads your pages the way you meant them.
Step 1: Count visits from AI
Visits from AI are the visits from people who clicked a link in an AI answer. Group them by assistant and by landing page, and look at which page each assistant sends patients to, and whether that page is the one you would choose. Read the trend over several weeks, so one slow week doesn't read as a decline.

Step 2: Tie AI visits to bookings
A visit is not a patient. Choose the one conversion that means a booked appointment, and make sure it is tracked wherever the booking happens: in a scheduler such as IntakeQ, Calendly, Acuity or Jane App, which often sits on another site, or in a booking system, CRM or call tracking tool that confirms the appointment later. Bookings made days after the visit should still count back to it.
Google suggests the same habit for its own traffic: “In addition to Search Console, you could also track conversions and time spent on your site in other tools” (Google). With bookings next to AI visits, two kinds of work follow: fix the AI landing pages that get visits but few bookings, and build out the topics that book well. A simple monthly report covers four lines:
- Visits from AI. Clicks from AI answers, by assistant and by landing page.
- Bookings from AI visits. The appointments those visits led to.
- Pages AI cites. Your pages that appear as sources in AI answers, with the visits and bookings each one brings.
- The halo. The estimated lift in branded searches and direct visits, shown as an estimate next to the bookings you can trace.
Step 3: Estimate the halo
The halo is the lift in branded searches and direct visits that rises along with AI visits, from patients who read an answer and came back later on their own. No referrer ties those visits to an assistant, so the halo can be estimated but never counted visit by visit.
Treat it as an estimate with a range, not as a count of patients, and report it next to the bookings you can trace click by click. That keeps a noisy month from inflating the number you report to a partner or a board, and it keeps the conversation on appointments.
Connect what AI says to who books
Visits and bookings show what AI answers are worth. To see why they move, read them next to three numbers about the answers themselves: mention rate (how often AI answers name you), citation rate (how often they cite your site) and share of voice (your share of the mentions among the brands you compete with). When mention rate on a topic rises and AI visits to its pages follow, the answers are doing their job. When AI names you but few patients click through, the cited page may not be the one that books.
Bing frames its own report the same way: “For the first time, you can understand how often your content is cited in generative answers, with clear visibility into which URLs are referenced and how citation activity changes over time.” (Bing)
Measure each change you make
Every page you publish or update is a test. Note the date it went live, then compare the mention rate on its topic, AI visits to the page and the bookings from those visits, before and after. That closes the loop from what AI says, to who clicks, to who books. See the AI visibility content roadmap and what AI visibility means.
Bing's advice for pages AI already uses is plain: “Regular updates help ensure AI systems reference the most current version of your content.” (Bing) For a practice, that means keeping services, hours and insurance current on the pages AI cites most.
How Curve Compliance helps
AI Visibility is a feature in Curve Compliance, and Curve also offers it as a managed service. AI Visibility shows how often AI assistants, including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini, name and cite your practice for the questions your patients ask. It ties AI answers to the visits and bookings they bring you. It also estimates the wider lift from patients who come back later. It turns what it finds into a weekly roadmap sized to what your clinicians can publish, with medical topics flagged for clinical review. Every week you get a plain-language summary of what changed, and a one-page report to share. See the AI Visibility product page.
With the managed service, Curve's team sets up your questions, competitors and topics, writes the pages on your roadmap, and makes the technical fixes that help AI assistants read your site. Your clinicians review and approve anything medical before it goes live. If your developer manages your site, Curve's team hands them the exact fixes. Each month, Curve's team walks you through your results on a call and sends a one-page report. AI Visibility is available on request: book a call to get started.
In one AI Visibility program we've run, for a HIPAA-focused healthcare software brand, AI assistants named or cited the brand in more than half of their answers to its 40 core buyer questions about five weeks in. Across 184 buyer questions, its site was cited in more AI answers than any competitor's, more than 2.5 times as many as the nearest one.
Curve Compliance also runs HIPAA-compliant ad tracking. It sends conversions server-side to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Microsoft Advertising and LinkedIn, strips PHI before data reaches an ad platform, and keeps attribution when a patient leaves to book. AI Visibility asks AI assistants only the marketing questions you track, screened for PHI first, never anything about a patient. Curve is SOC 2 Type II and signs a BAA on every plan.
