Ad Account Rescue

My personal profile is restricted from advertising and I run the clinic's ads

The notice
If a personal profile is restricted from advertising, that person can't advertise or create new ads.
On this page

The restriction is on you, not on the clinic. Meta says: "If a personal profile is restricted from advertising, that person can't advertise or create new ads." The clinic's ad accounts, Page and business portfolio can keep running, because Meta adds that "other members of the business portfolio, ad account or Page, may still be able to advertise." Work on two tracks. Confirm your identity and request a review of your own profile in Business Support Home. At the same time, make sure a second real person, using their own profile with the right access, can run the clinic's ads. Never run ads from a spouse's, friend's or freelancer's profile.

Curve Compliance helps the clinic keep its advertising measured and optimizing, whoever is running it. Curve's team reviews what your website sends to Meta, Google and TikTok with you and shows what's likely triggering the flag. Curve rebuilds your conversion tracking so it's HIPAA-compliant, with conversions sent server-side and attribution kept through booking tools such as IntakeQ, Calendly and Jane. Curve signs a BAA on every plan. Book a call with Curve.

What a profile restriction stops

Meta defines the personal profile as "The Facebook or Instagram profile of the specific person who is advertising using an ad account", and says enforcement on it affects "whether the person can use business assets." The restriction follows the person, so it applies in every business portfolio and ad account you work in.

  • Stopped: your ability to advertise anywhere on Meta. Meta says: "If restricted, you are not allowed to use Meta Products to advertise."
  • At risk: ad accounts where you are the one person attached. Meta says "Any ad accounts where they're the only attached user may also be disabled."
  • Still working: the clinic's assets, run by other members who are in good standing.

Why one person gets restricted

If the notice sits on the portfolio or the ad account instead, the path is different; see a restricted business portfolio or a disabled ad account.

  • Ads they created. When ads "severely or repeatedly violate our policies", Meta can restrict the "user account" as well as the business. For owners who write their own ads, a run of health-claim or personal attributes rejections is the usual path.
  • Account security. Meta restricts access when it suspects an account was hacked, or when a user of a portfolio that's over 90 days old hasn't turned on two-factor authentication.
  • Profile authenticity. Meta's Terms ask each person to "Provide for your account the same name that you use in everyday life" and to "Create only one account (your own)." A second profile made for work, or a profile under the clinic's name, breaks that.
  • Links to disabled accounts. Meta's Community Standards let it restrict accounts "Owned by the same person or entity as an account that has been disabled."

Get your own access back

  1. On a computer, open Business Support Home and select Account status overview.
  2. Select your restricted account and read the What you can do section.
  3. Confirm your identity if asked. Meta may ask for the email on the account, your mobile number, a photo of your ID or the payment method on the account, and notes that "you may need to complete it within a certain timeframe."
  4. Secure the account with two-factor authentication.
  5. If a review is offered and you have fixed what caused the restriction, request it. Meta says a review typically takes 48 hours, that reviews are limited, and that "the decision is final."

Keep the clinic advertising the right way

Business portfolios exist so more than one person can run a business's ads.

  • Add a second real person, such as a practice manager or partner, to the business portfolio under Settings, then People, using their own profile. Give them full control or access to the ad accounts they need.
  • Make sure no ad account depends on one person as its only attached user.
  • If an agency runs your ads, give its staff access through the portfolio as a partner. Nobody logs in as you.
  • Whoever runs ads next should not repeat what got you restricted. Violating ads from a new admin put the whole business at risk.

Never borrow a profile

Meta's Terms say you must "Not share your password, give access to your Facebook account to others, or transfer your account to anyone else (without our permission)." That rules out logging in as a spouse, friend or freelancer to keep ads running, and it rules out lending your own login to an agency.

It also tends to end badly: moving ads to another person's profile puts that profile at risk too. Meta's Community Standards let it restrict accounts "Created or repurposed" to get around an earlier removal, including those with "common ownership and content." See whether to open a new ad account.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone else on our team run the clinic's ads?

Yes, if they use their own profile and are in good standing. Meta says other members of the business portfolio, ad account or Page may still be able to advertise when one person's profile is restricted.

Can I make a second Facebook profile for work?

No. Meta's Terms ask each person to create one account, their own, under the name they use in everyday life.

Will the clinic's ad account be disabled too?

It can be if you are its one attached user. Meta says ad accounts where the restricted person is the only attached user may also be disabled, so add a second person now.

Can our agency log in as me to keep ads running?

No. Meta's Terms prohibit sharing your password or giving others access to your account, so give the agency its own access through the business portfolio.
