How to read your account status in Meta Business Support Home

On this page

Meta Business Support Home is where Meta shows whether your business portfolio, ad accounts, Pages or Facebook account are restricted, and where you take the steps it asks for, including a review request. Meta says its account overview shows "whether your accounts or business portfolios are disabled or have any advertising restrictions." Open it on a computer, choose the last 14, 30 or 90 days, and read the Outstanding tab. Then click the restricted account and work through its What you can do steps. If you're looking for Account Quality, Meta's current help pages describe these checks under Business Support Home. Curve Compliance wrote this guide for clinics and health brands.

Meta decides restrictions and reviews. What your website sends to Meta is the part you control, and that is where Curve Compliance helps. Curve's team reviews what your site sends to Meta, Google and TikTok with you, shows what's likely triggering a flag, and rebuilds your tracking server-side with PHI stripped before data reaches an ad platform. Curve signs a BAA on every plan, and its team does the setup. Book a call with Curve.

Where to find Business Support Home

Meta's troubleshooting guide starts with "On a computer, go to Meta Business Support Home." On Meta's About Meta Business Support Home page, the step "Go to Business Support Home" links to facebook.com/business-support-home. Sign in with the Facebook account you advertise from.

What Meta says you can do there includes:

  • "Review the status of your business portfolios, ad accounts, commerce accounts, catalogs and Pages."
  • "Request a review of ads or assets that you believe may have been incorrectly rejected."
  • "Contact support."

Read the Account status overview

Meta's Business Support Home guide gives these steps, in plain terms:

  1. Go to Business Support Home and pick a date range. Meta says to click "the calendar icon at the top right of the page", and "You can choose from the last 14, 30, or 90 days." Choose 90 days if trouble started with a run of rejected ads.
  2. Open the Outstanding tab in the Recent account issues section of your Account status overview. Meta says it shows "current issues and actions you can take."
  3. Open Resolved to see what has been closed. Meta says "You can then click on an account for further detail."
  4. Click the account with an outstanding issue. Meta's troubleshooting guide says "From Account Overview, click the restricted account that you want to troubleshoot."

Which asset is restricted, and where to go next

Meta's Business Support Home guide explains two of the statuses. "The status of your Facebook account impacts your personal ad account and access to certain features for managing advertising assets." And "The status of your business portfolios impacts the ad accounts, shops and business assets they own."

Meta can restrict four kinds of asset, each with its own line on its advertising restrictions page. Read every issue the Outstanding tab lists; the restricted account recovery plan shows how to scope them.

Not every status is a policy ban

A restriction isn't always a full stop: Meta says restrictions "may include" spending limits or "Loss of access to some advertising features" (advertising restrictions). Some statuses aren't about your ads at all:

  • A failed payment. Meta's failed payment guide says that when your payment method fails, "your ads are paused and your ad account is disabled until you pay the amount due." The fix is in Billing & payments, not a policy review.
  • Unusual activity. Meta says it "may temporarily restrict certain features while we investigate the issue", such as "loss of the ability to create new ad accounts".
  • Security. Meta also says it may restrict advertising when "We suspect an advertiser's business portfolio or business assets have been compromised or hacked" or when "An advertiser doesn't meet our two-factor authentication requirements for account security."
  • Data restrictions on your website events. Meta reports these by email and in Events Manager. See Meta data sharing restrictions and conversions stopped: restriction or broken tracking.

What each "What you can do" step means

Meta's troubleshooting guide says "We may ask you to do one or more of the following:" confirm your identity, complete verification, secure your account or request a review. Which ones you see depends on "the account restriction type and the stage you're at in the process". Work through each one Meta shows:

  • Confirm your identity. Follow the prompt from the account Meta shows it on, and use your real details. The public text of Meta's troubleshooting guide names this step without describing it further.
  • Complete verification. Someone with full access to the portfolio (Meta's permissions page says "full access (formerly full control)") completes business verification in Security Center. Your business portfolio is restricted covers getting the details right.
  • Secure your account. Turn on two-factor authentication for everyone in the portfolio, and remove people who no longer work with you. Meta lists hacked assets and missed two-factor requirements among the cases where it may restrict advertising.
  • Request a review. Use it once the cause is fixed, as below.

Request a review once, from the right account

Meta's review guide says that if you believe your account "was incorrectly restricted from advertising, you may be able to request a review of the decision in Meta Business Support Home." It adds: "To request a review, you must be an admin on the account." Request it from the asset that carries the restriction, not from a different ad account or Page. Meta's steps:

  1. In Business Support Home, select Account status overview in the left menu.
  2. Select the restricted account.
  3. In the What you can do section, select Request review.
  4. Complete the on screen steps.

What happens after you ask

Meta says "Typically, our review is completed in 48 hours, although it may take longer in some cases." Reviews are limited, the decision is final, and ads that ran before the restriction don't restart on their own (Request a review). So fix the cause first, in every ad account: Facebook ad account disabled covers what to fix, Meta Health and wellness rejections covers Meta's health ad rules, and Meta denied our review covers a denial.

Rejected ads: another review in the same place

Ad rejections show up in Business Support Home too. Meta's rejected ad guide says "When an ad is rejected, you'll receive an email notification and a link to Meta Business Support Home where you can find the reason for the rejection." For a review, Meta says "We aim to review and provide a decision within 48 hours." Ads not yet decided are covered in Meta ad stuck in review.

Each ad gets one review request: if it's "rejected again, it will stay rejected and you won't be able to submit another review request for the same ad." Editing is the other route. Meta says "Your ad will automatically be submitted for another review once it's edited." For severe or repeated violations, Meta says it can "go beyond rejecting ads and restrict your Business account, Ad account, Page and/or user account from advertising." Meta's steps for an ad review:

  1. Go to Business Support Home.
  2. Click to select your account or catalog with the rejected ads.
  3. Select the ad, ad sets or campaigns that you believe were incorrectly rejected.
  4. Click Request review and select Submit.

Restricted, but no Request review button

The Meta help pages linked here don't list reasons for a missing button. Start with the three checks in the FAQ below (admin role, stage, a review already used), then these. If none fits, use Contact support in Business Support Home.

  • The ad was deleted or already re-reviewed. Meta says "you may lose your ability to request another review if the ad is deleted", and a second rejection can't be reviewed again.
  • It isn't a policy restriction. Fix a failed payment in Billing & payments. For unusual activity, Meta says to "Review actions for you to take to try to resolve any restrictions in Meta Business Support Home."
  • You're looking at the wrong asset. Check the portfolio, each ad account, the Page and each person's profile.

Check whether a "Meta representative" message is real

Meta's Business Support Home guide says your account overview lets you "confirm the validity of any emails, text messages, or phone calls you may get saying your business accounts have issues from someone who claims to be a Meta representative."

Meta's guide to representative contacts adds: "Meta representatives will never ask you for your password, payment details, or other sensitive information over chat, text, email or phone." Meta email comes only from domains it lists, such as fb.com, facebook.com, meta.com and their subdomains, and Meta asks you to "Report suspected phishing emails to phish@fb.com." If a message says your accounts have an issue that Business Support Home doesn't show, don't act on the message. Data sharing notices are different: Meta says it will tell you about those "via email and notifications in Meta Events Manager" (data sharing restrictions), so check Events Manager for those.

What not to do

Talk to Curve

Frequently asked questions

What is Meta Business Support Home?

It's Meta's page for checking whether your business portfolios, ad accounts, Pages and catalogs have issues, and for acting on them. Meta says you can "Review the status of your business portfolios, ad accounts, commerce accounts, catalogs and Pages" and "Request a review of ads or assets that you believe may have been incorrectly rejected." (About Meta Business Support Home)

Is Facebook Account Quality the same as Business Support Home?

The Meta help pages linked here don't say Account Quality was renamed. They describe account status, restrictions and reviews under Business Support Home, and Meta's About Meta Business Support Home page links Business Support Home to both facebook.com/business-support-home and facebook.com/accountquality.

How do I see if my Meta ad account is restricted?

On a computer, go to Business Support Home, pick the last 14, 30 or 90 days, and open the Outstanding tab in Recent account issues. Meta says the account overview shows "whether your accounts or business portfolios are disabled or have any advertising restrictions." (About Meta Business Support Home)

Why don't I see a Request review button in Business Support Home?

Check three things. Only an admin on the restricted account can request a review, so ask one (Request a review). The steps Meta shows depend on "the account restriction type and the stage you're at in the process", so finish any identity, verification or security step first (troubleshooting guide). And reviews are limited: "Once the review is completed, the decision is final."

How long does a Meta account review take?

Meta says "Typically, our review is completed in 48 hours, although it may take longer in some cases." (Request a review). For a rejected ad, it says "We aim to review and provide a decision within 48 hours." (How to troubleshoot a rejected ad)

Who can request a review for a restricted business portfolio?

An admin on the restricted account (Request a review). Meta now calls the top portfolio permission full access: "People with full access (formerly full control) can manage everything in the business portfolio" (permissions).

Is a message from a Meta representative about my account real?

Check Business Support Home first. Meta says you can find notifications about your account's status there, and "Meta representatives will never ask you for your password, payment details, or other sensitive information over chat, text, email or phone." (Meta representative contacts)

How does Curve Compliance help a clinic after a Meta restriction?

Meta decides the restriction and any review. Curve Compliance's team reviews what your website sends to Meta with you, shows what's likely triggering a flag, and rebuilds your tracking server-side, with PHI stripped before data reaches an ad platform. Event Logs show what Meta accepted, and Curve signs a BAA on every plan. Book a call with Curve.
