Addiction treatment AI visibility means knowing whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini name your center when someone asks where to find treatment, and whether what they say about your programs, facilities and insurance is right. Curve Compliance's AI Visibility shows how often they name and cite your center, and catches what they get wrong. AI Visibility is a feature in Curve Compliance, and Curve also offers it as a managed service.

What people ask AI about treatment
In KFF's March 2026 poll, 36% of adults who used AI for health information said feeling more comfortable looking up health questions privately was a major reason, and one in six (16%) adults had used AI tools for mental health information or advice in the past year (KFF). KFF asked about physical and mental health rather than addiction treatment specifically. ChatGPT “can also use location information to find local results” (OpenAI), so where someone asks from shapes which programs come back.
Someone looking for treatment often asks more than one question at once, and the assistant may run several searches behind the scenes. OpenAI says ChatGPT search “typically rewrites your query into one or more targeted queries” when it works with search partners (OpenAI). So a question about detox near home can turn into narrower searches about programs, insurance and admissions, and the pages those searches find are the ones the answer cites.
The questions a center should watch fall into a few kinds:
| Kind of question | Example question | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Local | outpatient addiction treatment in Tucson | Whether AI names you for your city and your programs |
| Commercial | best detox center near Denver that takes Medicaid | Whether AI names you when someone is ready to call |
| Comparison | Your center against a named program | Who leads, and what AI says about each |
| Brand | Your center name plus insurance or programs | What AI says when someone asks about you by name |
| Informational | how to choose a residential program for a family member | Whether your pages are the ones AI cites for research questions |
AI Visibility shows how often AI assistants name and cite your center for questions like these.
Accuracy matters as much as being named
A wrong answer about a treatment center can send someone to the wrong place, or away from help that was close by. OpenAI says “Search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect,” and it tells users to “use an authoritative source when accuracy matters” (OpenAI). Your own site should be that source. State the facts AI should get right plainly on your own pages, and know the wrong claims to look for:
| Fact | What to state plainly | Wrong claim to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Programs | Only the programs you run, such as detox, residential or outpatient | A program you do not offer |
| Facilities | Every facility address | A closed facility, or the wrong city |
| Insurance | The plans and payment options you accept | A plan you no longer accept |
| Admissions | How and when to reach admissions | An old phone number or old hours |
| Name | Your current name and any former names | A mix-up with a similarly named center |
AI Visibility catches what AI gets wrong about your center, so you can correct it on the pages AI reads. See what to do when AI is wrong about your practice.
Clinical content stays with your clinicians
Pages about treatment carry clinical claims, and those belong to your medical team. Your clinicians should write or approve every clinical sentence, from how a program works to who it suits.
AI Visibility turns what it finds into a weekly roadmap sized to what your clinicians can publish, with medical topics flagged for clinical review. It measures what each published piece changes. See the AI visibility content roadmap.
Privacy when you track AI answers
Treatment centers have more reason than most to watch where data goes. AI Visibility is built for healthcare: only the marketing question you track is sent to AI assistants, screened for PHI first, and never anything about a patient. Curve is SOC 2 Type II and signs a BAA on every plan.
The public shares the concern: KFF found that 77% of adults are concerned about the privacy of personal medical information provided to AI tools. Yet “about four in ten (41%) of those who have used AI for physical or mental health (amounting to 13% of all adults), say they’ve uploaded personal medical information into an AI tool or chatbot” (KFF). A tracked question such as outpatient treatment in Tucson describes a search, not a person.
Federally assisted substance use disorder programs may also fall under 42 CFR Part 2, which adds its own rules on top of HIPAA. See 42 CFR Part 2 and behavioral health marketing and HIPAA-compliant AI visibility tracking. Which rules apply depends on your program, so talk to your counsel.
Where AI finds treatment information
OpenAI says “Responses that use web search may include citations,” and that users can open a cited source “to check that it supports the answer” (OpenAI). For a treatment center, the cited pages can be directories, health publishers, government sites, news or your own site. The more clearly your own pages state your programs and admissions details, the more useful they are to cite.
AI Visibility shows which sources AI cites for your questions, so you can see which directories, publishers and pages of your own the answers lean on. See where AI gets healthcare answers.
Who AI names instead of your center
AI Visibility measures who AI names with three numbers: mention rate (how often AI answers name you), citation rate (how often they cite your site) and share of voice (your share of the mentions among the brands you compete with). It shows where competitors are named and you aren't, who leads each topic, and which sources AI cites.
Where someone asks from matters. OpenAI says ChatGPT “may use an approximate location based on your IP address to provide relevant local results,” and it tells users who see the wrong area to “Include your city, neighborhood, or postal code in your question” (OpenAI). So two people a few miles apart can see different centers for the same question. For a center that also runs outpatient mental health care, see therapy practice AI visibility.
From AI answer to admissions call
AI Visibility ties AI answers to the visits and bookings they bring you. For a treatment center, that can be an admissions inquiry, a call or a booking. See how to tie AI search traffic to bookings.
Curve Compliance also tracks admissions. Curve sends admissions inquiries, calls and bookings server-side to Meta, Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising under neutral event names, detects PHI-like patterns before data reaches an ad platform, and Curve's team sets up the ad tracking for you. See Curve for addiction treatment centers, HIPAA-compliant tracking for addiction treatment and an example addiction treatment tracking plan.
How Curve Compliance helps
AI Visibility is a feature in Curve Compliance, and Curve also offers it as a managed service. With the managed service, Curve's team sets up your questions, competitors and topics, writes the pages on your roadmap, and makes the technical fixes that help AI assistants read your site. Your clinicians review and approve anything medical before it goes live.
Every week you get a plain-language summary of what changed. Each month, Curve's team walks you through your results on a call and sends a one-page report. AI Visibility is available on request: book a call to get started. See the AI Visibility product page.
In one AI Visibility program we've run, for a HIPAA-focused healthcare software brand, AI assistants named or cited the brand in more than half of their answers to its 40 core buyer questions about five weeks in. Across 184 buyer questions, its site was cited in more AI answers than any competitor's, more than 2.5 times as many as the nearest one.
