TikTok rejected our weight loss clinic's ad under "Weight Management and Body Image"

The notice
Weight Management and Body Image
On this page

TikTok rejected the ad because its copy, video or landing page broke the Weight Management and Body Image policy, last updated in September 2026. The policy bans exaggerated weight loss claims, product-alone promises, easy or guaranteed results, and anything that shames bodies or suggests an ideal one. Weight loss claims must be restricted to people 18 or older and made "via the promotion of a healthy lifestyle". A prescription GLP-1 program also answers to TikTok's healthcare rules, which in the US ask for proof of approval and certification from regulators such as the FDA. Fix the creative and the landing page, then edit the ad, or appeal once if the rejection was a mistake.

Curve Compliance helps weight loss clinics measure what TikTok sends them. Curve replaces browser pixels with HIPAA-compliant, server-side conversion tracking to TikTok, Meta Conversions API, Google Ads, Microsoft and LinkedIn, so your campaigns keep optimizing on booked consultations, and it keeps attribution through booking tools such as IntakeQ, Calendly and Jane. Curve's team does the setup for you, typically live in about a week, with a BAA signed on every plan. Book a call with Curve.

What the policy bans

TikTok's rule: "Ad content and landing pages for weight-related products and services must not include exaggerated or harmful weightloss or muscle gain claims. We also do not allow content that promotes disordered eating and risky weight management behaviors. Any weight loss or muscle gain claims must be restricted to audiences aged 18 years or older, and must do so via the promotion of a healthy lifestyle." Its examples of what is not allowed:

  • "References to unrealistic muscle gain or weight loss."
  • "Encouragement of unhealthy lifestyles or promotion of unhealthy relationships with food."
  • "Claims that the product alone, without diet or exercise, can lead to weight loss or muscle gain."
  • "Suggestions that losing weight or gaining muscles is easy or guaranteed."

The body image rules catch clinic creative too

The second half of the policy is about how bodies are shown and talked about: "Ad content and landing pages must not explicitly shame users about their bodies, suggest there is an ideal body type, or promote improved life circumstances or self-image as a result of changes in body appearance or weight." Examples of what is not allowed include:

  • "Suggesting users need to look a certain way, or that there is a "right" or "perfect" way to look"
  • "Claims that looking a certain way will make individuals more desirable, successful, happy, or popular"
  • "Claims that body appearance determines a person's confidence, self-esteem, emotional wellbeing, desirability, popularity, or social standing"
  • "The promotion or reinforcement of negative or unhealthy body images"

What US clinics can advertise

For the United States and Canada, TikTok lists "Weight loss surgical procedures (Work with a TikTok sales representative to determine eligibility and obtain permission to run ads)", weight loss supplements and meal replacement products as what "may be allowed subject to age restrictions, applicable local licensing requirements, and full compliance with all advertising policies".

Prescription programs sit under the Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals policy. In the US, prescription medicine "May be allowed" if you "Provide proof of approval and certification from appropriate local regional regulating authorities, such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)" and "Restrict the ads to audiences aged 18 years or older". Medical institutions must comply with local laws, may need certifications, and must target 18+. For the wider rules, see what TikTok's health rules allow for clinics.

How to fix the ad

  1. In TikTok Ads Manager, open Campaign, find the ad and click the Disapproved label. "You'll see an explanation about why your ad or ad group was rejected or restricted." Click View more to see which placements and audiences are affected.
  2. Rewrite the creative: no amounts or timeframes, no product-alone or effortless promises, and no framing of a body as better or worse. Show the program, the clinical support and the healthy habits it involves.
  3. Fix the landing page as well, since the policy covers "Ad content and landing pages". Then keep that page stable; TikTok lists changing a live campaign's landing page among its common reasons for suspending an ad account.
  4. Restrict the ad group to audiences aged 18 or older.
  5. Click Edit ad and save. The ad goes back into review, and TikTok says "Typically most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, although in some cases it may take longer."
  6. If the ad was rejected by mistake, use One Click Appeal from the ad's status: hover over Not delivering, click View more, then Appeal. TikTok asks you to "only file one appeal for each incident", because "Filing multiple appeals in a short period of time for the same issue will lead to delays in processing."

Keep rejections from reaching the account

Repeated rejections lower Account Health, and TikTok sends an account suspension warning when a violation "can then lead to a declined account health status". If you have had one, read TikTok restricted our ad account or warned it could be suspended now, while every option is still open.

Check your lead forms while you are in there. TikTok's Ad Review FAQs say "you cannot use Lead Ads to request sensitive information, like financial or medical information." An instant form that asks for weight, BMI or conditions is a rejection waiting to happen.

Talk to Curve

Once the creative is approved, you want TikTok optimizing on patients, not clicks, and Curve makes that possible. Curve's team sets up HIPAA-compliant, server-side conversions to TikTok and your other platforms in place of the pixel, with PHI-like patterns detected before data reaches an ad platform, identifiers SHA-256 hashed to TikTok's requirements, and attribution kept through your booking tool. It is typically live in about a week, with a BAA signed on every plan. Book a call with Curve.

Frequently asked questions

Can a telehealth clinic advertise a GLP-1 program on TikTok in the US?

TikTok's US policy says prescription medicine may be allowed with proof of approval and certification from regulators such as the FDA, and with ads restricted to people 18 or older. The creative must also follow the Weight Management and Body Image policy.

Can our TikTok lead form ask about weight or health conditions?

No. TikTok says "you cannot use Lead Ads to request sensitive information, like financial or medical information." Keep the form to contact details and take clinical questions into your own intake.

How long does TikTok take to review an edited ad?

TikTok says most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, although some take longer. Editing an ad's creative or targeting location triggers a new review.

How do we appeal a rejected TikTok ad?

Use One Click Appeal from the ad's status in the Campaign tab. File one appeal per incident, and note that a suspended account can't submit appeals until the suspension is lifted.

How does Curve help weight loss clinics on TikTok?

Curve's team sets up HIPAA-compliant, server-side conversions to TikTok in place of the pixel, keeps attribution through your booking tool, and signs a BAA on every plan. Book a call with Curve.
