Switching From Triple Whale: A Guide for Telehealth Brands

How a telehealth brand moves from Triple Whale to Curve Compliance: neutral server-side conversions, a BAA on every plan, and setup done by Curve's team.

7 min read

A telehealth brand switches from Triple Whale by moving the conversions it sends to ad platforms onto Curve Compliance, which provides server-side conversion tracking for Meta, Google, TikTok, Microsoft and others in place of pixels. Curve signs a BAA on every plan, and Curve's team does the HIPAA-compliant setup, usually in about a week. The switch has four parts: map your current Triple Pixel and Sonar events to neutral telehealth conversions, let Curve's team rebuild them server-side, run both tools side by side without sending any event twice to the same dataset, then compare reports against your own order or consult count.

Coming from Triple Whale? Curve's team rebuilds your conversions for a telehealth funnel, with neutral events, hashed identifiers and a BAA on every plan. Book a call.

Why telehealth tracking is different

Triple Whale collects customer journey and conversion data from your website and "connected ecommerce platform" (Sonar Optimize 101). Its Triple Pixel works by "building a unique anonymous identity of each visitor" and following the ads they click, and Sonar Optimize uses that data "to enrich conversion events before sending them to supported advertising platforms through their Conversions APIs," drawing on connected platforms such as Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce. Many telehealth brands run a similar storefront, but what they sell changes the rules.

Standard e-commerce events can describe a treatment

For Meta, Sonar Optimize can send View Content, Search, Add to Cart, Initiate Checkout, Add Payment Info, Purchase and Sign-up, according to its Meta setup guide. On a supplement store those events are routine. When the item in the cart is a prescription treatment, an event that carries the product, the page address or a search term can say something about the patient's health. Meta's help center lists medical conditions, treatments and prescription medications among the information businesses should not send, and warns that "UTM parameters in a URL string may contain prohibited data from the landing pages viewed."

HIPAA reaches the booking and intake pages

HHS guidance on tracking technologies says tracking on logged-in pages, such as a telehealth platform, generally has access to PHI, and that unauthenticated pages where people schedule appointments can too. A vendor that receives PHI is expected to sign a business associate agreement. HHS flags at the top of the page that a federal court vacated one portion of the guidance in 2024, covering visits to public pages about health conditions. For a practical view of the boundary, see where tracking belongs in virtual care intake.

Meta may categorize telehealth sites

Meta may place a website in a health and wellness data source category, naming a "telemedicine platform" and a "pharmacy" as examples, and says such categories "may have additional data sharing restrictions." Curve's server-side tracking, neutral event names and PHI-like pattern detection are built for exactly this setting, and Curve signs a BAA on every plan.

What carries over from Triple Whale

  • Ad accounts, campaigns and Meta datasets. Curve's team connects the accounts and datasets you already use, so nothing is rebuilt in Ads Manager or Google Ads.
  • UTM parameters. Triple Whale relies on its recommended tracking parameters to see which ad a visitor clicked. Keep your naming consistent through the switch so reports line up, and check that no value names a condition or medication.
  • Your event map. List which Sonar events are switched on for each platform, including custom events such as New Customer Purchase or Initial Subscription Order. Curve's team re-creates the ones you optimize toward under neutral event names.
  • Subscription rules. If you exclude first recurring orders from Meta optimization today, as Triple Whale recommends, tell Curve's team which subscription events should count as conversions.
  • Booking and intake. Where the funnel leaves your store for a consult booking or an intake form, Curve keeps attribution through those tools with bridge tokens, webhooks and offline uploads.
  • Your history. Save the Triple Whale attribution views you plan to compare against before you close the account.

How to switch from Triple Whale, step by step

Curve's team does the setup. You provide access and confirm which conversions matter.

  1. Book a call and walk through your funnel. Ad platforms, store, quiz or intake, booking tool, and the moment a patient becomes revenue, whether that is a first order, a consult or a subscription.
  2. Sign the BAA. Curve signs one on every plan, at the start of setup.
  3. Write down your Sonar configuration. Which standard and custom events go to Meta and other platforms, your order exclusions, and the attribution settings you use.
  4. Curve's team rebuilds the events. Each conversion gets a neutral event name, and contact identifiers are SHA-256 hashed to each platform's requirements.
  5. Curve's team installs server-side tracking in place of pixels. Meta, Google, TikTok, Microsoft and others receive conversions from Curve's servers. Consent management and PHI-like pattern detection are set up alongside.
  6. Connect booking and intake. Bridge tokens, webhooks and offline uploads keep attribution when patients move into separate booking and intake tools.
  7. Hand over event by event. As each Curve conversion goes live on a platform, switch off the matching standard event in Sonar Optimize.

Curve's team usually completes the HIPAA-compliant setup in about a week.

Running Triple Whale and Curve side by side

Triple Whale's own docs state the main rule. Sonar Optimize 101 says "running multiple providers that send the same standard conversion events to the same platform and dataset can create duplicate events," and the Meta guide advises: "Avoid having Sonar Optimize and another CAPI provider send the same standard conversion events to the same Meta dataset."

  • Switch events over one at a time. When Curve starts sending a conversion to Meta, switch off the matching standard event in Sonar Optimize's settings the same day. Repeat for each event and each platform.
  • Agree the pages for the overlap. Decide with your compliance lead which pages the Triple Pixel stays on while you compare, and keep it off booking, intake and logged-in pages.
  • Match windows before you compare. Triple Whale's default attribution window is 28 days. Use the same window when you set Triple Whale results beside platform results.
  • Run at least one full purchase cycle. Triple Whale's pixel guide makes the same point: wait "for the length of your average customer journey (from first ad click until purchase) before deriving actionable insight."

Which reports to compare

  • Your own source of truth. Completed orders, consults or active subscriptions from your store, EHR or billing system, counted by week. Judge both tools against this number.
  • Meta Events Manager and Ads Manager. Events received for each conversion, event match quality, and cost per result, before and after each event moves.
  • Google Ads and TikTok conversions. Conversions by action and date, with only one action per conversion set to count during the overlap.
  • Triple Whale's click models. Last Click, and Triple Attribution, which Triple Whale defines as assigning "credit to the last click per platform before conversion," sit closest to platform numbers. Its Total Impact model uses post-purchase survey data, so read it as a separate lens.
  • Weekly results in your AI client. With Curve MCP, ask Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client how each Meta and Google Ads campaign did over recent weeks, with spend next to the conversions Curve tracked.
  • Recordings of converted visits. Session recordings and heatmaps run under the same BAA, so you can see how visitors from each campaign move through product pages and intake.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a telehealth brand switch from Triple Whale to Curve Compliance?

Book a call, sign Curve's BAA and list the events Sonar Optimize sends today. Curve's team rebuilds your conversions under neutral event names, installs server-side tracking for Meta, Google, TikTok, Microsoft and others, and connects booking and intake tools. You then hand over one event at a time and compare reports before closing Triple Whale.

Can I run Triple Whale and Curve at the same time?

Yes, during the transition. Follow Triple Whale's own guidance and avoid having two providers send the same standard events to the same Meta dataset: switch off each Sonar event as Curve's matching conversion goes live.

How long does the switch take?

Curve's team usually completes the HIPAA-compliant setup in about a week. Plan the side-by-side period to cover at least one full purchase cycle.

Which Triple Whale report should I compare against?

Last Click, which credits the final click before purchase, or Triple Attribution, which credits the last click per platform. Both sit closest to how Meta and Google credit their own conversions. Use the same attribution window on both sides.

What happens to my Triple Whale event setup?

Curve's team uses it as the map. Each event you optimize toward is re-created under a neutral name, and your order and subscription exclusions guide which conversions count.

Does Curve keep attribution when patients book or complete intake outside my store?

Yes. Bridge tokens carry attribution into separate booking and intake tools, and webhooks and offline uploads bring completed bookings and later outcomes back as conversions.

Does Curve Compliance sign a BAA?

Yes. Curve Compliance signs a BAA on every plan, and session recordings and heatmaps are covered by the same agreement.
