LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms are lead forms inside LinkedIn ads that come “pre-filled with accurate LinkedIn profile data,” so members can send their details without leaving LinkedIn (LinkedIn). They suit healthcare B2B campaigns aimed at clinicians, administrators and buyers, and LinkedIn's healthcare policy already requires many health ad types to target healthcare professionals. Patient-facing campaigns should not ask health questions in any ad platform's form. Curve Compliance, which signs a BAA on every plan, sends the conversions that happen on your website to LinkedIn server-side through the LinkedIn Conversions API and strips PHI before data reaches an ad platform.

What LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms are

LinkedIn says “Lead Gen Forms simplify the process of capturing high-quality leads by automatically populating contact and profile information when a member clicks the call-to-action button on your ad” (LinkedIn Help). After submitting, the member sees a thank-you page that can link to your content or website. Here is what the forms can hold, from LinkedIn's help pages:

FeatureWhat LinkedIn saysWhat it means in healthcare
Prefilled fieldsUp to 12 fields from contact, work, company, education and demographic categories; first name, last name and email are pre-selected (LinkedIn)Use work details for B2B. Leave out anything you do not need
Custom questions“Custom questions are required fields that the member needs to answer to submit the form,” up to three, multiple choice or single-line text (LinkedIn)Ask about role, organization or timeline, never a condition or treatment
Hidden fieldsTrack “static or dynamic ad set parameters (for example, UTM source, ad set ID, or sales rep owner)” (LinkedIn)Keep campaign names and parameters free of health terms
Disclosure checkboxesUp to five optional checkboxes “to get the members specific consent for any additional ways you intend to use the information they submit” (LinkedIn)Use them for B2B marketing consent
Privacy“Members can delete submitted data. Advertisers must also provide a valid privacy policy URL and custom text.” (LinkedIn)Link your privacy policy, not a patient notice
Leads out“Download leads as CSV,” or sync to marketing automation platforms, CRMs or CDPs (LinkedIn)The CRM receiving leads sets your data rules

Lead Gen Forms attach to single image, carousel, video, event, message, document and conversation ads (LinkedIn Help). LinkedIn reviews ads and forms against its Advertising Policies and says it reviews them “usually within 24 hours” (LinkedIn Help).

Healthcare B2B use cases

Lead Gen Forms fit offers where the lead is a professional, not a patient. Typical examples are a health tech company offering a demo to hospital administrators, a device maker inviting clinicians to a product webinar, a staffing firm recruiting nurses, a continuing education provider filling an event, or a services company sharing a report with practice owners. In each case the form collects work details, and no patient's health information is involved.

LinkedIn's health ad rules

LinkedIn's healthcare ads policy sets rules by ad type (LinkedIn):

  • Prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Advertisers “must have prior authorization to serve ads on LinkedIn,” and ads “may not be targeted at consumers or a general audience.”
  • Pharmacy and telehealth services. Prior authorization is required, “Ads must originate from LegitScript-certified or NABP-accredited advertisers,” ads must target the United States only, and they may not target consumers or a general audience.
  • Medical devices, clinical trial recruitment, vitamins and supplements. “Ads must be targeted at healthcare-related professionals,” and must not target members under 18.
  • Health matters ads. “LinkedIn also accepts unbranded healthcare and disease awareness ads.”

LinkedIn's Advertising Policies add: “Ads promoting unrealistic or misleading claims about health improvements, including those related to diet and weight loss, are prohibited.” They also say “Ads must not target based on sensitive data or categories,” a list that includes “data concerning health (including medical information and consumer health data)” (LinkedIn Advertising Policies). If an ad or form is rejected, see what to do when LinkedIn rejects a telehealth ad, and for every platform side by side, healthcare advertising rules by platform.

What not to ask in a lead form

LinkedIn's Ads Agreement says you will not transfer to LinkedIn any data that “constitutes Sensitive Data, including by way of installing the Insight Tag on a page that collects medical, financial, or other Sensitive Data about identified or identifiable individuals” (LinkedIn Ads Agreement). LinkedIn does not sign a BAA (Directory entry). A custom question such as which condition someone wants treated would collect health information inside LinkedIn, so keep custom questions to professional details.

The same care applies to hidden fields and campaign names: a UTM value that names a condition travels with the lead. See UTM parameters and PHI and build clean links with the UTM builder. For patient leads, send people to a form on your own site that is hosted under a BAA, such as Curve Forms, where form answers are never sent to ad platforms.

Getting leads into your CRM

LinkedIn says that if you use a marketing automation or CRM platform, “you might be able to integrate your Lead Gen Forms with your partner,” and if not, “you can still download a list of your leads as a CSV file in Campaign Manager and manually upload it to your database” (LinkedIn Help). It also notes “Some third-party CRM partners don't support member profile link fields, hidden fields, or custom checkboxes,” so test with a test lead first. Downloading leads needs “Viewer access or higher on the ad account and Lead Gen Forms manager or higher on your Company Page” (LinkedIn Help).

Work contact details from a hospital buyer describe a professional, not a patient's health or care. If the same CRM also holds patient records, its vendor needs a BAA and the LinkedIn leads should not mix with patient data. Measuring LinkedIn conversions server-side

Leads from Lead Gen Forms are counted inside Campaign Manager. Conversions that happen on your website, such as a demo request, a sign-up or a booked call, need another route. LinkedIn says its Conversions API “allows advertisers to stream conversion events from their server to LinkedIn primarily to measure LinkedIn marketing campaign performance, regardless of where the conversion occurs” (Microsoft Learn). Because the Ads Agreement bars the Insight Tag on pages that collect medical data, a server-side send with a neutral event name and a fixed list of fields is the safer path on a healthcare site. See server-side alternatives to the Insight Tag and event tracking on a healthcare website. To see it on your own account, book a call with Curve.

Which campaigns and forms fit your company depends on what you sell and to whom, so talk to your counsel before collecting anything beyond work details.

How Curve Compliance helps

Curve Compliance sends LinkedIn conversions server-side through the LinkedIn Conversions API, so no Insight Tag is needed for conversion tracking, and it does the same for Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and Microsoft Advertising from one script. Curve maps the actions on your site to LinkedIn conversion events such as Lead, Sign_up and Purchase, sends each platform only a fixed list of fields, and lets events use neutral names. Curve checks every event for PHI-like patterns and strips PHI before data reaches an ad platform, and Event Logs show what Curve sent to each platform and what it accepted.

For leads that come in on your own site, Curve Forms are hosted by Curve under the BAA Curve signs on every plan, and each lead arrives in the Leads inbox with its UTMs, ad click ID and attribution. Outcomes from CRMs and call tracking can reach Curve through incoming webhooks and are credited to the original ad click. See Curve's LinkedIn integration. Curve is SOC 2 Type II, and Curve's team does the setup, typically live in about a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms?

They are lead forms inside LinkedIn ads that automatically fill in a member's contact and profile details when the member clicks your call-to-action, so leads submit without leaving LinkedIn (LinkedIn Help).

Can healthcare companies advertise on LinkedIn?

Yes, within LinkedIn's healthcare ads policy. Drug, pharmacy and telehealth ads need prior authorization, pharmacy and telehealth advertisers must be LegitScript-certified or NABP-accredited, many health ad types must target healthcare professionals, and LinkedIn accepts unbranded disease awareness ads (LinkedIn).

Should a clinic collect patient leads on LinkedIn?

Usually not. LinkedIn's Ads Agreement bars transferring Sensitive Data to LinkedIn (LinkedIn), LinkedIn does not sign a BAA (Directory entry), and pharmacy and telehealth ads may not target consumers. Send patients to a form on your own site hosted under a BAA instead.

How do I track LinkedIn conversions?

Lead Gen Form leads show in Campaign Manager. For conversions on your website, send events server-side through LinkedIn's Conversions API (Microsoft Learn) with neutral names and no health details; Curve Compliance does this for you.

Does LinkedIn sign a BAA?

No. LinkedIn's Ads Agreement says you will not transfer Sensitive Data to LinkedIn, including through an Insight Tag on a page that collects medical data (Directory entry).

Can I connect LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms to my CRM?

Yes, through LinkedIn's marketing automation and CRM partners, or by downloading leads as a CSV file in Campaign Manager (LinkedIn Help). Test with a test lead, since some partners do not support hidden fields or custom checkboxes.

What are hidden fields in LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms?

Fields the member does not see that pass ad set parameters, such as UTM source or ad set ID, to your CRM (LinkedIn Help). Keep their values free of health terms.
