LinkedIn rejected our telehealth or pharmacy ad
Ads promoting pharmacy and telehealth services are restricted and require prior authorization.
On this page
LinkedIn rejected the ad because pharmacy and telehealth services are restricted content on LinkedIn. They need prior authorization, must come from a LegitScript-certified or NABP-accredited advertiser, can target only the United States, and, the rule most teams miss, "may not be targeted at consumers or a general audience." LinkedIn accepts these ads when they reach healthcare-related professionals and are relevant to their work. A campaign built to acquire patients won't be approved as it stands. Get authorization, point the campaign at the right professional audience, then edit and resubmit, or appeal from the rejection notice if the ad already complies.
LinkedIn is one of the channels Curve Compliance supports directly. Curve replaces browser pixels with HIPAA-compliant, server-side conversion tracking to LinkedIn, Google Ads, Meta Conversions API, TikTok and Microsoft, so every campaign you run is measured on real conversions, with PHI-like patterns detected before data reaches an ad platform. Curve's team does the setup for you, typically live in about a week, with a BAA signed on every plan. Book a call with Curve.
What LinkedIn requires for pharmacy and telehealth ads
LinkedIn's Healthcare ads policy lists the requirements for pharmacy and telehealth service ads:
- "Pharmacy and telehealth service advertisers must have prior authorization to serve ads on LinkedIn. Ads must originate from LegitScript-certified or NABP-accredited advertisers."
- "Ads must target within the United States only."
- "Ads must be targeted at healthcare-related professionals." "Pharmacy and telehealth service ads may not be targeted at consumers or a general audience."
- "Ads must not target members under 18 years of age."
- "Ads must not promote the sale or use of opioids, anabolic steroids, or other unsafe products or substances on our prohibited list."
Why most clinic campaigns are rejected
The audience rule decides most cases. LinkedIn defines healthcare-related professionals as "any person (or entity) associated with the healthcare industry or the provision of health-related services, advocacy, research, or policy development related to healthcare." Ads for these categories "must be targeted to healthcare-related professionals and must be relevant to their work." A telehealth offer aimed at patients fails that test however the ad is written.
Two broader rules also apply to every advertiser. LinkedIn's Advertising Policies say "Ads must not target based on sensitive data or categories, including" "data concerning health (including medical information and consumer health data)". And under Health Matters: "Ads promoting unrealistic or misleading claims about health improvements, including those related to diet and weight loss, are prohibited." LinkedIn adds that it "reserves the right to restrict advertising related to any health matter."
Other healthcare categories on LinkedIn
- Prescription drugs: prior authorization, United States or Canada only, and targeted at healthcare-related professionals.
- Medical devices and treatments: "Ads for medical devices and medical treatments are restricted." Medical device ads must also be targeted at healthcare-related professionals.
- Weight loss: LinkedIn's guidelines say "Ads must not promote unrealistic or misleading health claims" and "Ads must not contain images depicting idealized results or graphic depictions of certain medical conditions." Before-and-after weight loss images are one of its examples of violating content.
- Awareness campaigns: "LinkedIn also accepts unbranded healthcare and disease awareness ads. Reach out to your LinkedIn representative for more information."
Edit, resubmit or appeal
- See the reason. In Campaign Manager, "you can click the Rejected status to view why your ad or form was restricted", or open the notification and click View notice page.
- Get authorized. LinkedIn says: "If you're not a LegitScript-certified advertiser in the United States, please visit the LegitScript certification page to apply for certification. If you are already LegitScript-certified in the United States or NABP accredited, reach out to your LMS representative for details."
- Retarget the campaign to healthcare-related professionals in the United States, with a message relevant to their work.
- Edit the ad. "After editing your ad, it will automatically be resubmitted for review." LinkedIn reviews ads "usually within 24 hours."
- If the ad already complies, appeal from the notice page: click Submit an appeal, confirm you have read the Advertising Policies and reviewed the ad, and submit. You need Ad and Asset Status notifications turned on to appeal, and LinkedIn replies "via email, usually within 24 hours".
Where your patient campaigns can run
Patient acquisition for telehealth happens on other channels, each with its own approval path. Keep each platform's rules separate rather than copying one campaign everywhere.
