In-Chat Checkout for Health Brands: Tracking Sales
Copilot and Meta now test checkout inside the chat, and ChatGPT sends buyers to your site. Here is how health brands track sales a pixel never sees.
In-chat checkout for health brands means the sale is completed inside the AI assistant, so your website's pixel may never fire, but with Copilot Checkout the order still lands in your own systems: Microsoft says "you stay the merchant of record," and that it uses "the merchant's existing payments, fraud, tax, fulfillment, and reconciliation systems" (Microsoft; Microsoft). Meta is testing checkout in Meta Business Agent, Meta AI and Muse, while OpenAI says ChatGPT is "moving away from a standalone Instant Checkout experience" and purchases "are completed on merchant-owned websites or apps" (Meta; OpenAI). Curve Compliance takes those orders from your CRM by incoming webhook or offline upload, credits each to the ad click that brought the buyer to your site and sends each ad platform only a fixed list of fields, under the BAA it signs on every plan.

Where in-chat checkout exists today
Each row quotes the platform's own page, checked October 26, 2026.
| Platform | What the platform says | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Copilot | "Copilot Checkout lets shoppers complete purchases directly inside Microsoft Copilot" (Microsoft) | Announced January 8, 2026 as "beginning to roll out in the U.S. on Copilot.com" (Microsoft) |
| Meta Business Agent on Messenger | "With Shopify, we're testing a direct checkout experience in Meta Business Agent on Messenger" (Meta) | Test, announced October 6, 2026 |
| Meta AI | "This fall, we'll begin testing a direct checkout experience with Adyen, PayPal, Shopify and Stripe in Meta AI" (Meta) | Planned test, announced October 6, 2026 |
| Muse | "In Muse, we're adding PayPal wallet to our existing checkout options: Link by Stripe and Shop Pay." (Meta) | Announced October 6, 2026 |
| ChatGPT | "Users can discover and evaluate products in ChatGPT, but purchases are completed on merchant-owned websites or apps." (OpenAI) | Merchant page, checked October 26, 2026 |
ChatGPT went the other way
When OpenAI launched Instant Checkout, it said "Orders, payments, and fulfillment are handled by the merchant using their existing systems" (OpenAI). Its merchant page now says "We're moving away from a standalone Instant Checkout experience in ChatGPT and prioritizing better shopping discovery and merchant-owned checkout experiences," and that its Agentic Commerce Protocol "supports product discovery" today, while "Over time, ACP will expand to support the full shopping journey with deeper integrations and APIs" (OpenAI).
So for ChatGPT, the job today is measuring the visit from ChatGPT to your own checkout. See tracking ChatGPT and Perplexity referrals, and for ads, healthcare ads in AI assistants.
Who holds the order data
Microsoft is explicit: "With Copilot Checkout, you stay the merchant of record. You own the transaction, the customer data, and the relationship" (Microsoft). Its agentic commerce page adds "Merchants keep the customer relationship, the data, and full control" (Microsoft). Meta's October 6 announcement names its checkout partners (Adyen, PayPal, Shopify and Stripe) but does not say how order data reaches the merchant in its tests (Meta).
Where you are the merchant of record, each sale is recorded in systems you control: your store, payment processor or CRM. That record is what you send back to the ad platforms.
Why pixels miss these sales
A pixel is a script on your web pages, and it reports what happens in that browser. Microsoft describes Copilot Checkout as "No redirect, no friction," and Meta describes purchases "without leaving the conversation" (Microsoft; Meta). When the buyer never loads your site, a website pixel has no page view to report, so pixel-based reports can undercount those sales and the ad platforms learn from fewer of them. For health brands the pixel route is narrow anyway: Microsoft says "Do not place UET tags on pages subject to HIPAA regulations" (Microsoft). For the basics, see what a tracking pixel is.
Sending in-chat sales back server-side
- Start from the system of record. Where you are merchant of record, as Microsoft says you are with Copilot Checkout, each in-chat order reaches your store, payment processor or CRM.
- Send each order to your server-side tracking. Use an incoming webhook or a scheduled offline upload. See sending webhooks safely and CRM stages as conversions.
- Tie it to the ad click. When the buyer first reached your site from an ad, credit the order to that click, so the campaign that started the journey gets the sale.
- Send a neutral purchase event. Meta's Business Tools Terms bar data that "includes or is based on, directly or otherwise, health information," and say event names "must not reflect, imply or be based on" that information (Meta). Keep product names that hint at a condition out of event names and parameters.
- Check what was accepted. Compare what you sent with what each platform accepted before you trust the numbers.
Health product rules on each platform
- ChatGPT. OpenAI's product feed rules list "prescription-only medications" among prohibited products (OpenAI), and its plugin guidelines list "Protected health information (PHI)" as restricted data plugins must not collect (OpenAI). For ads, "In the US, we may allow ads from approved advertisers on a case-by-case basis for" categories including "Dietary supplements" (OpenAI); see ChatGPT Ads for health brands.
- Microsoft. "Microsoft does not offer Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) for UET and does not represent that UET meets HIPAA requirements" (Microsoft). See Microsoft Copilot ads for healthcare.
- Meta. The Business Tools Terms health clause above applies to pixel and Conversions API data; see our Business Tools Terms guide and Meta Business AI for clinics.
- Shopify. Shopify says some activities "are not supported by our platform, such as uploading Protected Health Information subject to HIPAA" (BAA Directory); see Shopify for telehealth stores.
How Curve Compliance helps
Curve Compliance receives orders and other outcomes from booking systems, CRMs and call tracking through incoming webhooks, and offline conversion uploads from a CRM or EHR, then credits each to the original ad click. It sends conversions server-side to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Microsoft Advertising, LinkedIn and ChatGPT Ads, with neutral event names and a fixed list of fields, and contact identifiers are off by default on Meta, Google Ads and TikTok.
Curve checks every event for PHI-like patterns and strips PHI before data reaches an ad platform. Event Logs show what Curve sent to each platform and what the platform accepted, and Campaign Reporting puts Meta and Google Ads spend next to Curve-tracked conversions per campaign. Curve signs a BAA on every plan, is SOC 2 Type II, and Curve's team does the setup, typically live in about a week. See Curve for Microsoft Advertising.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do health brands track sales made inside an AI chat?
Send each order from the system that records it, such as your store or CRM, to the ad platforms server-side, because an in-chat sale may never load your website. Curve Compliance receives those orders by webhook or offline upload, credits each to the ad click that brought the buyer to your site and sends only a fixed list of fields.
Can health products be sold through ChatGPT checkout?
ChatGPT now sends shoppers to merchant-owned websites or apps to complete purchases (OpenAI). Its product feed rules prohibit "prescription-only medications" (OpenAI).
Does the Meta pixel see a Meta AI checkout?
A pixel reports from your web pages, and Meta describes these purchases as happening "without leaving the conversation" (Meta). Send the sale from your order system instead, with a neutral event name, since Meta's Business Tools Terms bar health information (Meta).
Who owns the customer data in Copilot Checkout?
The merchant. Microsoft says "You own the transaction, the customer data, and the relationship" (Microsoft).
How do I count an in-chat sale as a conversion?
Record it where the order lands, send it to your server-side tracking by webhook or upload, tie it to the original ad click and send each platform a neutral purchase event.
Do I still need a BAA?
Only where HIPAA applies: a covered entity may let a business associate handle PHI on its behalf once it obtains "satisfactory assurance that the business associate will appropriately safeguard the information" (eCFR). Whether that reaches your product sales is a question to talk to your counsel about.
Which ad platforms can Curve Compliance send in-chat sales to?
Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Microsoft Advertising, LinkedIn and ChatGPT Ads, server-side, with PHI stripped before data reaches an ad platform. Curve Compliance signs a BAA on every plan.
