Healthcare Ads in AI Assistants: 2026 Platform Rules
See where healthcare ads can run in AI assistants in 2026, from ChatGPT and Copilot to Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, under each platform's own rules.
Healthcare ads in AI assistants are allowed on some platforms in late 2026: Microsoft says any ad that can serve on Bing can also serve in Copilot, OpenAI may allow approved US advertisers in ChatGPT case by case in categories such as dental services, hospitals and urgent care, and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, and Google still keeps healthcare ads out of AI Overviews themselves (Microsoft; OpenAI; Google). Curve Compliance sends server-side conversions to ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Google Ads and Meta, so each platform learns from booked patients rather than page views, and strips PHI before data reaches an ad platform.

ChatGPT Ads
OpenAI says “Ad testing started in the United States on February 9, 2026” (OpenAI). After a pilot, it is “expanding access through self-serve onboarding in Ads Manager Beta,” which “supports core campaign creation, billing, access management, and reporting workflows, along with conversion measurement and CPC bidding” (OpenAI FAQ).
Health is restricted. OpenAI's ad policies say “Ads for health services outside the US are generally prohibited,” list the US categories it may approve case by case, and add that “Advertisers may be required to provide proof of licensure.” The same section bars ads for “invasive or high-risk medical procedures” and “adult-oriented sexual health services.” The health section was last clarified in v1.3 (July 2026), and the latest version is v1.6 (September 2026) (OpenAI ad policies). OpenAI's OAI-AdsBot checks landing pages: “When you submit an ad, OpenAI may visit the landing page to ensure it complies with our policies” (OpenAI). For the full category list and setup, see ChatGPT Ads for health brands. For dentists, see ChatGPT Ads for dental practices, and if your ads are not serving, see ChatGPT Ads not serving for healthcare.
Ads in Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft says “All eligible campaign and ad types are automatically opted in to serving in Copilot,” that “Advertisers cannot opt out of serving ads,” and that it “does not currently support specific metrics for ads served in Copilot” (Microsoft). The details are in Microsoft Copilot ads for healthcare.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
Google's help page says healthcare is one of the sensitive verticals it doesn't currently show ads within AI Overviews for, while “Ads are eligible to show above or below the AI Overview in all 200+ markets where AI Overviews are available” (Google). For AI Mode, Google wrote on May 21, 2025 that it was “starting to test ads in AI Mode” and that advertisers “already using Performance Max, Shopping and Search campaigns with broad match, including AI Max for Search campaigns, will be eligible to have their ads appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode” (Google). Its AI Mode page now calls the formats “New for 2026” (Google). Neither page says whether healthcare ads may appear inside AI Mode responses. See healthcare ads in Google AI Mode and AI Overviews.
Perplexity
Perplexity's ads post, published November 12, 2024, says “Ads will appear in the US to start and will be formatted as sponsored follow-up questions and paid media positioned to the side of an answer” (Perplexity). That 2024 post is still the only advertising page on perplexity.ai; we found no current advertiser program page or health ad rules there on October 26, 2026. Ask Perplexity whether it sells ads today before you plan budget around it.
Meta AI, Business Agent and Muse
Meta's Advertising Week New York 2026 post describes AI shopping inside conversations: “With direct checkout tests in Meta Business Agent on Messenger, Meta AI, and Muse, people can now make purchases without leaving the conversation” (Meta). For clinics, the closer question is Business Agents, which Meta's terms say can be used for “providing customer support.” Those terms, dated 16 July, 2026, grant Meta “a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free license to use any Input for the purposes described in these Terms,” and say that after a handover the agent “may continue to observe the content being shared in the chat” (Meta). Read Meta Business AI for clinics before you switch it on.
What every platform keeps away from health conversations
- OpenAI. No ads near personal health or mental health conversations, though medical advice contexts are “no longer categorically blocked from ads by default” (v1.1, April 2026, OpenAI ad policies), and “Advertisers never receive your chats, chat history, memories, name, email, precise location, IP address, or sensitive information (such as health, mental health, political topics)” (OpenAI).
- Google. No healthcare ads inside AI Overviews for now (Google).
- Microsoft. Ads follow the whole conversation, and conversations its models flag as potentially harmful get no ads. Negative keywords are the advertiser's control (Microsoft).
- Perplexity. Its 2024 ads post says it “will never share your personal information with advertisers” (Perplexity).
Those promises cover what the AI platform shares with you. They don't cover what your website sends back. When a person clicks an AI ad and lands on a page about a condition, the pixel on that page decides what the platform learns about the visit.
Tracking across all of them
ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising and Google Ads all measure conversions. OpenAI offers a Measurement Pixel and a Conversions API that “sends conversion events directly from your server to OpenAI” (OpenAI). Microsoft tells advertisers to keep UET off pages subject to HIPAA (Microsoft). Google's AI placements lean on broad match, AI Max and Performance Max, and Google recommends “smart bidding” alongside them (Google), which learns from the conversions you report. Each new browser pixel is one more place patient data can leak.
- One script, not a pixel per platform. Send conversions from a server, so you decide what leaves.
- A fixed field list per platform. Know exactly which fields ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft, Google and Meta receive, event by event.
- Outcomes, not page views. Automated bidding on new AI placements can only learn from what you report.

How Curve Compliance helps
Curve Compliance replaces browser ad pixels with one script and sends conversions server-side from Curve's servers to ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Google Ads, Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn. Each platform receives only a fixed list of fields, events can use neutral names, and contact identifiers are off by default on Meta, Google Ads and TikTok. Curve checks every event for PHI-like patterns and strips PHI before data reaches an ad platform. Event Logs show what Curve sent to each platform and what the platform accepted.
Curve keeps ad attribution when a patient leaves to book in IntakeQ, Calendly, Acuity, Jane App and other schedulers, and takes outcomes from booking systems, CRMs and call tracking through incoming webhooks, crediting each to the original ad click. One setup feeds booked patients to ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Google Ads and Meta. Curve is SOC 2 Type II and signs a BAA on every plan (Directory entry). Curve's team does the setup, typically live in about a week.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which AI assistants accept healthcare ads in 2026?
Microsoft says any ad that can serve on Bing can also serve in Copilot, and OpenAI may allow approved US health advertisers in ChatGPT case by case (Microsoft; OpenAI). Google keeps healthcare ads out of AI Overviews for now, though they can run above or below one (Google).
Can healthcare companies advertise on ChatGPT?
Some can. OpenAI may approve US advertisers case by case in categories such as dental services, hospitals and urgent care, and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, and may ask for proof of licensure (OpenAI).
Can my ads appear in Google AI Overviews?
Not inside them, for healthcare. Google says it doesn't currently show ads in AI Overviews for healthcare, but ads can still show above or below the Overview (Google).
Are healthcare ads allowed in Copilot?
Yes, on the same terms as Bing. Microsoft says “If an ad can serve on Microsoft Bing, it can also serve in Copilot,” and advertisers cannot opt out (Microsoft).
Does Perplexity have ads for healthcare?
Perplexity announced a US test of sponsored follow-up questions and side placements on November 12, 2024, and that post sets no rules for health advertisers (Perplexity). It is still the only ads page on perplexity.ai, so ask Perplexity whether it sells ads today.
Will my ad show next to someone's health conversation?
Not next to personal or mental health conversations in ChatGPT, OpenAI says (OpenAI), though its policy changelog adds that since v1.1 (April 2026) “Medical, legal, and financial advice contexts are no longer categorically blocked from ads by default” (OpenAI). Microsoft matches Copilot ads to the whole conversation, so use negative keywords there (Microsoft).
Do AI ad platforms share patients' chats with advertisers?
OpenAI says advertisers never receive users' chats or sensitive information such as health topics (OpenAI), and Perplexity's 2024 ads post says it will never share personal information with advertisers (Perplexity).
Which AI ad platforms can Curve send conversions to?
Curve Compliance sends conversions server-side to ChatGPT Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Google Ads, Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn, with PHI stripped before data reaches an ad platform.
