What the BAA covers and excludes

Covers, in Zoho's words:

  • Zoho CRM is on Zoho's list of services that "provide features that support HIPAA compliance when configured and used appropriately." (HIPAA Compliance at Zoho)
  • In Zoho CRM, "HIPAA is supported for Leads, Contacts, Vendors, and custom modules."

Excludes or limits, in Zoho's words:

  • "Not all Zoho services are designed to meet HIPAA requirements. The BAA specifies which applications are covered."
  • Zoho CRM's feature list shows HIPAA Compliance Settings on the Standard, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions, not the Free edition. (Zoho CRM feature list)

What this means for ad tracking

Zoho CRM holds leads and patients, and teams often sync its lead stages, deals or email activity back to ad platforms as conversions or audiences. Each sync sends data from Zoho CRM to Meta, Google or TikTok.

A BAA with Zoho covers the data inside the Zoho services it lists. It does not extend to the ad platform receiving a conversion or an audience from Zoho CRM. What reaches the ad platform should be a neutral event, not a lead stage or list name that names a treatment.
